ESTONIAN SINFONIETTA IN ISRAEL!

On May 15th -18th the Estonian Sinfonietta Strings performed four concerts in Israel.The conductor was Sergey Ostrovsky.
His brilliant career began as the first concertmaster of Orchestre de la Suisse Romande de Genève, he has also performed as a soloist in front of several super orchestras in the world, with conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Yoel Levi, Hugh Wolff, and Maxim Vengerov. Currently, Sergey Ostrovsky is committed to promoting his own career as soloist and the Aviv Quartet. He is also a violin professor at the Haute école de musique Genève-Neuchâtel.

The soloists of the Israeli concert tour were the virtuoso clarinetist twins Alexander and Daniel Gurfinkel, who made their stage debut at the age of 12 under the conductor Zubin Mehta in front of the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra.
Despite their youth, they have appeared on almost all continents, both in solo performances and in front of great orchestras. Since this is an extraordinary ensemble, most of their repertoire consists of arrangements.

Together with Estonian Sinfonietta, Alexander and Daniel Gurfinkel played the arrangement by Eugene Levitas from Sergei Prokofievs’ "Romeo and Juliet" Suite no. 64 and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozarts’ Sinfonia Concertante K.364 originally written for a violin and viola.
The program included also String Symphony No.10 by Felix Mendelssohn and “Holberg Suite” by Edvard Grieg, as well as “Illusion” by Erkki-Sven Tüür, and “Nostalgia” by Veljo Tormis. The concertmaster of the orchestra in Israel was Maano Männi.
